Biography
JAKE CALYPSO born in North of France in 1964 play Rock'n'Roll since the age of 13!
In the 80s with ‘THE CORALS’ he made his 1st album on the legendary label Mac Records in Belgium .
Later he released 2 albums with the band 'MYSTERY TRAIN' on Rockhouse Records (NL) and Eagle Records (D). An oldschool Rockabilly Band.
When 'Mystery Train' ceased to exist in 1999, ‘HOT CHICKENS’, a new trio was born!
And after 7 albums and a compilation, this band still exists & plays.
It is only in 2009 that the name of JAKE CALYPSO appears! When he decided on the sidelines of Hot Chickens to record single with a real 50's sound !
‘My Baby Rocks’ was the single & met a great success ! JAKE CALYPSO was born !
In almost 14 years, JAKE CALYSPO recorded 7 albums & many singles, EPs.
- Grandaddy Grease (1st album in 2010)
- Father & Sons (2nd album in 2014) with the famous track ‘Call Me Baby’
- Downtown Memphis (3rd album in 2015) recorded in the legendary ‘Sun Studio Memphis.
- Vance Mississippi (4th album in 2016) more ‘Blues’ & ‘Boogie’ with Archie Lee Hooker (John Lee Hooker’s nephew)
- 100 Miles (5th album in 2017) the album from his heart ! the album of his life ! Only Elvis ballads with his voice recorded in Memphis, Tupelo, Nashville & Bad Nauheim.
- My Foreign Love (6th album in 2019). 12 new songs with more end of the 50's influences like Roy Orbison, Ricky Nelson, & Buddy Holly. But he does not give up Rockabilly so far with 4 titles in a Charlie Feathers style or the Teddy Boy years.
- Rockabilly Star (7th album in 2021) with 12 songs wrote by Jake in the 80’s. He found the songs on demo takes. All the songs never released before. It was the pandemic year and he asked to his Band, the Red Hot, to come to record these old songs in his Shack with a Oldschool Rockabilly style. His own studio & his own label ‘Shack Sound Studio’ & ‘Around The Shack Records’ was born.
About concerts, backing by ‘The Red Hot’, Jake played in many many festivals with lot of energy & craziest shows everytime : Viva Las Vegas, Rockabilly Rave, High Rockabilly, Hangar Rockin’ & more, more…
Jake joined in 2017 Ricky Lee Brawn & Helen Shadow for a new project called ‘THE NUT JUMPERS’ and they released our debut album on Rhythm Bomb Records.
In 2024, this trio will release the 2nd album : Rock’n’Roll Generation.
About 7inch, after a 1st EP recorded in the legendary SUN STUDIO Memphis in 2014, 5 years later JAKE were back from another Studio in Nashville with some new tracks for Migraine Records. 2 Hot sides with 'Who Knocks On My Door ?' & 'Seeking A Partner'
During the Lockdown & Covid-19 time (2020-2021), Jake did many Facebook Live for his fans, friends, followers because the concerts were canceled.
And the result was a CD special 'Lockdown' but limited & sold out.
During this special year, he decided to start his new project called ‘LONELY JAKE’ (one man band) with a 1st album CD (14 origInal BLUES) recorded in 2016 on the Mississippi Roads. In 2024, he planned to record his 2nd album.
Back in Memphis in 2022, under the name ‘THE MEMPHIS BLUES CREAM’, he had the chance to record again in SUN STUDIO with 4 guys from MEMPHIS. 12 Songs, Rhythm & Blues from SUN RECORDS early 50’s. A great album !
Now the BLUES took an important place in his music on stage & on records. The right time to start another new project called JAKE CALYPSO TRIO. And JAKE plays now Lead Guitar & Harmonica in the trio. A 1st EP (Vinyl & CD) will be available early 2024 before a 1st album expected for Summer 2024 & recorded again in SUN STUDIO MEMPHIS.
To complete your collection, JAKE released on his own label ‘Around The Shack Records’, 2 compilations called ‘RARE JAKE’ with demos, outtakes, unreleased tracks from 1983 until now.
